  4. Introduction
  5. IP FileSharing Extras allows you to modify various parameters of Mac OS 9's FileSharing over TCP/IP, including:

  7. • Gateway volume icon (checkbox): Determines whether to use a different icon for the mounted server
  8. • Defer to foreground (checkbox): Some Text
  9. • Register with NSL (checkbox): Determines whether to register the computer with Network Services Location Manager (allows for TCP/IP browsing)
  10. • Check for other SWIPs (checkbox): Determines whether to check for other running copies of ShareWay IP
  11. • Extra Heap Space: Additional heap space to reserve
  12. • Minimum Stack Space: Minimum stack space required to run
  13. • Sleep ticks: Unknown parameter
  14. • Recycle ticks: Unknown parameter
  15. • Local server check ticks: Unknown parameter
  16. • Listener port: The TCP/IP port to use for AppleShare IP traffic
  17. • Listener queue depth: Size of queue to hold incoming TCP/IP requests
  18. • Maximum connections: Maximum number of simultaneous users allowed to log in (sessions)
  19. • Maximum buffers: Maximum number of buffers to allocate
  20. • Maximum concurrent AFP requests per session: Maximum number of concurrent AppleTalk Filing Protocol requests per session
  21. • Maximum buffers per session: Maximum buffers per session
  22. • AFP TCP tickle seconds: Seconds between AppleTalk Filing Protocol over TCP tickles (keep alives)
  23. • AFP TCP timeout seconds: Seconds before AppleTalk Filing Protocol over TCP tickle request fail
  24. • Timer interval seconds: Seconds between timer?
  25. • aspGetStatus timeout: Seconds between AppleTalk Session Protocol GetStatus request attempts
  26. • aspGetStatus retry: Number of AppleTalk Session Protocol GetStatus requests to attempt before failing
  27. • nbpLookup interval: Seconds between issuing Name Binding Protocol discovery requests
  28. • nbpLookup count: Number of Name Binding Protocol discovery requests to send
  29. • 2nd aspGetStatus timeout: Seconds between AppleTalk Session Protocol GetStatus request attempts
  30. • 2nd aspGetStatus retry: Number of AppleTalk Session Protocol GetStatus requests to attempt before failing
  31. • aspOpenSession timeout: Seconds between AppleTalk Session Protocol OpenSession request attempts
  32. • aspOpenSession retry: Number of AppleTalk Session Protocol OpenSession requests to attempt before failing
  33. • aspUserCommand timeout: Seconds between AppleTalk Session Protocol UserCommand request attempts
  34. • aspUserWrite timeout: Number of AppleTalk Session Protocol UserWrite requests to attempt before failing
  35. • asp attention queue length: Size of queue which holds awaiting AppleTalk Session Protocol requests

  39. As you can see, some of the parameters are not fully known.  Any help defining this parameters would be appreciated.

  41. Since Mac OS 9's IP based file sharing was licensed by Apple Computer from ShareWay, Inc., IP FileSharing Extras also has the ability to modify these parameters for all ShareWay IP 2.0 versions (Personal, Standard, and Professional). (*2)

  44. 1 - Even though these options exist, I have yet to figure out how to turn logging on.
  45. 2 - This functionality has not been fully tested.  Reports from users would be appreciated.

  47. Getting Started
  48. To use, simply double-click the IP FileSharing Extras icon.  On standard Mac OS 9 based computers, IPFX will automatically  open the ShareWay IP Personal Bgnd application in your System Folder:Extensions folder.  For machines utilizing the commercial version of ShareWay IP, simply hold down the option key while launching IP FileSharing Extras, and select the appropriate ShareWay IP application on your computer.

If you have not purchased a shareware license from Prime Computing Solutions, you will not be allowed to save your changes.  After you purchase your license, simply select "Register" from the Apple menu, enter your name and license code, after which the full functionality of IP FileSharing Extras will be available to you.
